Explore the jewels of Provence
The Citadelle de Marseille, also known as Fort Saint-Nicolas, is a 17thᵉ century historic monument overlooking the Old Port. A former strategic military site, it is now a cultural and heritage site open to the public.
The Citadelle de Marseille is an emblematic site in the Aix-Marseille-Provence region, where heritage, innovation and social utility meet. La Citadelle de Marseille (Groupe SOS) and ACTA VISTA are working together to convert it into a living heritage third-party site, making it a driving force in the transformation of the metropolis. It has a strong impact on the region: A cultural impact, by opening up a major historic monument to the public and offering artistic programming, residencies and events accessible to all. A social and integration impact, thanks to ACTA VISTA's worksite-schools, which train and support people far from the job market in their transition to employment. An educational impact, with tours, workshops and programs dedicated to groups and schools, encouraging the transmission and discovery of heritage. A lasting territorial impact, by transforming a military site into a space for living, urban ecology, citizen participation and innovation at the service of the region. La Citadelle thus becomes a symbol of renewal, combining memory, openness and creation in the heart of Marseille.
